2015 Fall Trial - Another One for the Record

The RREC 2015 fall trial brought it all!
Our fall trial weekend brought a range of weather and lots of new terriers and their people with 175 entries! With summer-like weather to kick off the weekend on Friday, we cleaned tunnels, set up tents and prepared the raffle baskets. We held Superearth and closed the evening with our usual potluck dinner - consisting of mostly crock pot dishes and desserts!

Saturday started off with a HUGE day of entry, with lots of new people entering IQ and Junior classes. The weather was bit drizzly in the morning, but with the warm temperatures and appropriate attire no one minded. We lucked out and got the heavy rain and wind in the break between the morning and afternoon trials when we were all under the tents enjoying our lunch, awards and the raffle draw. With the heavy rain we had to cancel Superearth for that day. The winner of the weekend Superearth event was Beyda and John Shelly (33 seconds!) whose name will be added to RREC's gold shovel! Scrapper and Camilla Moon won the turtle award.

Saturday after the trial the club held a meeting to discuss elections for officers and board members, the annual meeting in February, and the upcoming trials in 2016 and 2017. Additionally, the club is going to hold training for stewarding in conjunction with our practice/training days to ensure we have enough flexibility in our pool of volunteers. Following we had a wonderful catered dinner under the tent and sat around the firepit to dry out and warm up!

Sunday brought sunshine and cold temperatures, as well as new titles: Harry, Border Terrier - ME; Madam, Lakeland - ME; Maggie, Border Terrier - SE; and there were several new JEs and EEs awarded as well.

Many thanks to all the officers and members who continue to work on making RREC trials the best around. Thank you to all the volunteers who make it possible working gates, driving the masters braces, registering participants, selling club items and raffle tickets and much more. A special thanks to those who steward Masters - Julie, Gail, Margaret and Mary Ellen.

April Showers Bring Earthdogs - Spring Trial 2015

The RREC 2015 spring trial was a great success!
April showers were well represented at our spring trial weekend this year. Despite the rain, and an unexpected dip in the temperatures, the weekend was well attended. With plenty of volunteers and our reputation winning organizational skills we held a double trial on Saturday and still managed to have time for a nap before the evening festivities!

First morning of the trial everyone gathered around the fire to warm up before starting work. This year, there were lots of new puppies representing the next generation of working terriers - some even winning their first titles! All classes were well attended with a slightly smaller masters class this time. With the heavier rain on Saturday afternoon, Superearth was not as well attended as usual. Regardless, there were plenty of good times and gold shovels to go around. The winner of the combined Friday-Saturday Superearth event was Lil and Susan Story whose name will be added to RREC's gold shovel!

As usual, we had a potluck dinner Friday after clearing the walkups and checking tunnels for critters. Apparently followed by some highly debated television watching in one of the RVs. Saturday the club held both a board meeting as well as a members meetings following the trial. After some afternoon down time, the crowd gathered back at the tent for the catered dinner and conversation.

Thanks to all the great work of club members,
volunteers and of course our wonderful judges!

Cool Temps and a Harvest Moon for Our Fall Trial Weekend!

The RREC 2014 fall trial was one of our best yet!
With rain and warmer weather the week before the trial, everyone was surprised by another amazingly beautiful (but chilly!) trial weekend. Somehow, we just seem to always have great weather!

The weekend was well attend with 189 entries making it the second largest trial we've ever had! There were a lot of new handlers and breeds making this trial one of our most diverse. We welcomed a few new judges as well as several apprentices, spectators, and new members, along with all of the usual crew of earthdoggers. With so many in attendance, we had plenty of help stewarding and working the raffle - which was loaded with baskets, bushes and plenty of competition!

We had over 33 entries in Superearth for the weekend, with a number of qualifiers including our latest Golden Shovel winner, Rasa at 27 seconds with Margaret Thomas!

Thanks to all the great work of club members,
volunteers and of course our wonderful judges!

    Preparing for the Fall Trial!

Not only was last Sunday's work day one of the most beautiful fall days so far this season, it was well attended (2nd only to the one in September!) - including a furry friend that made itself at home in the Junior tunnels! Tunnels were cleared (and our friend sent on his merry way with great reluctance) and prepped for the trial, a membership meeting was held to line up volunteers and vote in a new member, and practice was held in the practice field.

We still need volunteers for all classes - gate stewards for Senior, rat stewards for Master and help in the main tent with raffle and sales!

Spring Storms Bring a Gorgeous Weekend for Spring Trials!

The RREC 2014 spring trial was a great success!
They say April showers bring May flowers, but the apparently also bring the beautiful weather we had for our spring trial weekend! Friday we had a torrential downpour, but it just as quickly dried up and the tunnels stayed clear and dry.

The weekend was well attend with over 150 entries rounding our our average over the last 5 years to 150 entries per trial weekend! There were a lot of new handlers and dogs increasing entries in both Introduction to Quarry and Junior Earthdog for a well balanced range of experience across all classes, including those going for Endurance Earthdog legs and titles.

We were not able to hold Superearth on Friday due to the weather, but held it Saturday with a number of qualifiers including our latest Golden Shovel winner, Tiger with Ken Nelson!

Thanks to all the great work of club members,
volunteers and of course our wonderful judges!
